The Roots of COGIR Real Estate

Founded in 1995 by Serge G. Duguay, COGIR excels in real estate repositioning and increasing the value of properties under its management. Today Mr. Duguay remains active in the company, which has been led by his son, Mathieu Duguay, since he was named Partner in 2004.

COGIR has become known for multidisciplinary expertise in the real estate sector, with a constant eye on new investment opportunities that fit with client goals, including co-investing, if required. As a general contractor, COGIR also provide exclusive property development and construction services for management services clients.

 

A solid team of experts

COGIR Real Estate employs approximately 3,800 real estate professionals who work tirelessly to provide the best customer service. The team manages more than 230 properties located in Quebec, Ontario and United States including more than 6 million square feet of residential, commercial, industrial and office sector real estate. Residential management includes over than 26,000 units located in Quebec, Ontario and United States, among these is a network of 52 private retirement homes. Extensive experience in hospitality is another key strength.

Our Executive Team

David Eskenazy Chairman of the board Cogir Management USA

Mr. Eskenazy recently retired having last served as President of Merrill Gardens, and previously was the Chief Financial Officer for Aegis Living. Prior to that, he spent 20 years with RC Hedreen Co., a Seattle based hotel development company, and for 16 years was a member of the board of directors for Outerwall (NASD: OUTR), parent company for Redbox and Coinstar, prior to its acquisition by Apollo. He currently serves on the board of Directors for the California Assisted Living Association and is the incoming Chairman of the Senior Living Certification Commission.

Wally Jossart President Cogir Management USA

Wally Jossart is a seasoned executive with over 20 years of experience leading teams focused on operations, accounting, finance, real estate, and investments. As President of Cogir Management USA, Wally leads all aspects of Cogir’s US operating company with responsibility for both driving excellence in care, compliance, sales, marketing and business analytics and also scaling operations for future growth.

Prior to joining Cogir, Wally spent about a decade at Aegis Living serving as CFO for 4+ years leading Aegis in all financial facets of its operations and real estate development activities with strategic oversight over corporate accounting, finance, tax, capital planning, banking and investor relations, Information Technology, and business development. Wally also led all aspects of capital structure analysis, fundraising, and financial strategy to achieve Aegis’ near and long-term growth targets.

Prior to joining Aegis, Wally served at the investment advisory firm to The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Cascade Investment, LLC, where he gained comprehensive investment management experience in fixed income, public equities, and real estate.

Wally holds a bachelor’s degree from Edgewood College and is a CFA Charterholder from the CFA Institute.

Benoit Levesque Senior Regional Director, COGIR Management USA

Benoit (Ben) is driven by the unrelenting pursuit of excellence, creativity and outstanding customer experience. He has been with the COGIR family for the past four years and currently serves as the Senior Regional Director for COGIR Management USA. During his tenure with the company, Ben’s track record of multiple successes led to his relocation from Canada to live and work in the beautiful state of California in 2019. Outside of the office, Benoit enjoys doing outdoor sports and running ultramarathons.

Prior to joining COGIR, Ben was managing a major distribution portfolio for a worldwide manufacturer, Tarkett (OTCMKTS: TKFTF).

He attended HEC Montréal and Cégep Régional de Lanaudière, where he studied business administration and management.

Patrick Mazzuca Regional Director of Operations, COGIR Management USA

Patrick has nearly 25 years of operational experience in the Retail, Hospitality—and since 2013— the Senior Living industry.

Prior to joining COGIR Management USA as Regional Director of Operations, he worked as a Director of Operations and General Manager for Aegis Living. Achievements at Aegis included successfully running existing properties as well as opening an Aegis Flagship Community.

Before focusing on Senior Living, Patrick ran Zoka Coffee, a local Seattle coffee company with multiple locations, licensing in Japan and a roaster operation.

He lives in the Seattle area with his wife and near his two grown children.

Carie Baker Regional Director of Operations, COGIR Management USA

Carie has spent the last 19 years in the senior housing industry. She started her job as a Sales Director in Glendale, CA and quickly realized that her passion was working with seniors.

Over the years she has had the pleasure of working in new builds as well as operational communities as well as in sales and operations. The stories, connections with the residents, their families and staff have been a large part of what has kept her so engaged in the field. Watching the industry evolve and grow has been so rewarding to her and her two young teenagers. The have grown up playing a large part in activities and events with each company she has partnered with over the years.

Carie is originally from Southern California and is a Laker and Dodger fan, in spite of the consistent comments from her native Nor Cal coworkers.

Stephanie Foster Director of Sales and Marketing, COGIR Management USA

Stephanie developed her passion for the senior living industry while helping her mother look for community style living. She left a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry to work for Holiday Retirement, where she managed six western states, equaling 72 independent senior living communities as West Coast Sales and Marketing Leader.

A desire to stay closer to home led to a new opportunity at Sacramento property management company, Ray Stone, Inc., where she was the Director of Marketing for the company. Four years later, she became the Northern California Regional Manager with A Place for Mom, where she managed advisors trained to help families find the perfect home for their loved ones. As COGIR’s Director of Sales and Marketing, she embraces each day with a vision to problem solve and help to grow COGIR into a premier senior living company.

When Stephanie is not working, she is surrounded by her family of 2 children and 4 grandchildren. Stephanie enjoys downhill skiing, working out, and wine tasting.

Nomalanga Malik Regional Health and Wellness Director, COGIR Management USA

Nomalanga (Noma) Malik, is a Senior Living Nurse Director with 16 years of experience providing and ensuring the proper provision of care to the geriatric population. Noma is equally skilled with the operative aspects of directing resident care and has dedicated her career to advocating for seniors.

Prior to joining Cogir Management USA as Regional Nurse, she was an Executive Director for an Assisted Living community in the Senior Housing industry. Noma also comes with experience in skilled nursing where she served as a Complex Care Nursing Manager and Assistant Director of Nursing. She graduated nursing school with honors and was class president, leadership award recipient as well as class Salutatorian.

Noma is originally from Volcano, Hawaii and was raised in the California Bay Area, where she still lives today. Gardening, creating new recipes and listening to an eclectic music collection are some of the things she enjoys in her off time.

Tammie Bennett, BSN Regional Health and Wellness Director, COGIR Management USA

Tammie has spent the last 15 years as a regional nurse for both skilled and assisted living communities and their residents. She started her career working as a floor nurse in the cardiac step unit. Tammie has also held the title of Director of Nursing, Nurse Consultant, Home Health Nurse and a nurse educator for a large corporation.

Working with seniors has been the most rewarding experience of Tammie’s career. She enjoys spending time with them, listening to their life stories and assisting them with their needs.

Originally from Ohio she has resided in Washington for 16 years. Tammie has 4 granddaughters, 3 great grandsons and lives in Kent with her husband and Old English Sheep dog. On her off time Tammie and her family spend time enjoying their lake home.

She graduated from Mount Carmel College of Nursing in Columbus Ohio, with her BSN.
